The Beginners Basic Starter Guide for Skin Care
If you are just starting out, you can use this skincare routine as a foundation to build up from. It is suitable for all skin types and sensitive skin.
1. Cleanser
This should be the first step in your skin care routine!
Cleansers help to remove excess skin cell build up and oils that could clog up pores and also reduces acne causing bacteria activity.
A good cleanser should remove dirt and oils without stripping the skin’s moisture barrier.
2. Toner
Second Step!
Toners serve to refresh and further remove any dirt that stayed on the face after cleanser.
A good toner should not strip moisture away from the face or make your face feel tight. Avoid alcohol based toners and look for natural skin soothing ingredients in toners like rosewater or aloe vera.
3. Serums
Third skin care routine step!
Serums are curated to provide high concentrations of a specific active ingredient to the skin which can vary depending on the skin type or skin challenge you are facing.
Step one to finding out what active ingredient or skin care product you need is to take our skin care routine quiz above or by accessing it by clicking here
4. Moisturizer
Fourth step!
Regardless of skin type, including oily type skin, moisturisation is a very essential step for maintaining skin.
For dry skin, you should look out for products with ingredients that are hydrating mainly hyaluronic acid and ceramides. Using plant based light facial oils tremendously helps with sealing moisture into the skin.
For oily skin, you also need to moisturise but to avoid being shiny, opt for oil free gel moisturisers that are light weight.
5. Protectant (Sunscreen)
Final step!
Sunscreen protects the skin from UV exposure, prevents hyperpigmentation and can slow down aging and wrinkle formation on the face.
Yes, even if you’re melanated, you still need sunscreen. However to avoid the suncreen white cast, opt for a tinted sunscreen if you’re of a deeper skin tone.
And that’s it!
